Inside Rook, Voted Denver's Best Patio
5280 Magazine’s Top of the Town Readers’ Choice Awards Winner: Best Patio
Rook has officially been named the 2026 5280 Magazine Top of the Town Readers’ Choice winner for Best Patio, an honor that feels especially meaningful considering the RiNo rooftop has only been welcoming guests for a little over a year. In a city known for its rooftop bars and patios, being recognized by Denver locals is a remarkable milestone.
Since opening its doors, Rook has never set out to be just another Denver rooftop bar. From day one, the vision has been to create a space that feels playful, a little unexpected, and unmistakably its own. It’s where thoughtfully crafted cocktails, craveable snacks, weekly programming, and one-of-a-kind experiences come together to create one of RiNo’s most distinctive rooftop destinations.
Awards like this don’t happen by accident. They’re earned through hundreds of memorable nights, countless thoughtful details, and a team that’s passionate about creating an experience guests want to return to again and again. Being recognized by 5280 Magazine readers after just over a year is an incredible achievement, and one that makes us even more excited for what’s ahead.
Chosen By The People
Here’s the distinction that matters: 5280 Magazine runs two separate honors under the Top of the Town banner. Editors’ Choice winners are picked by 5280 Magazine’s own reporters, who spend months researching anonymously and paying for their own meals and drinks. Readers’ Choice is different. As the title implies, readers pick their favorites for every category by casting votes via 5280 Magazine’s online ballot, and the businesses that receive the most votes win. This is why we’re even more thrilled about this accolade, and grateful to our city of patio regulars.

Opening Hour: The Board is Set
Upon opening hour (4 pm Monday - Friday, 3 pm Saturday - Sunday), the bar is stocked and set up, and the staff is dialed in for service. The shaded half of the patio fills up, and the pool tables start seeing action. Rook’s outdoor billiards were placed right under the open sky, built exactly for this unhurried stretch of the day before evening falls. It’s the calmest window to settle in with a cocktail, catch up with friends, or simply take in the views before sunset draws a crowd and the volume rises. If Rook has an hour that feels the least like a hotel bar and the most like a neighborhood favorite with one of the best rooftop views in Denver, this is it: slow games, a bartender settling into the rhythm of the shift ahead, and nobody in a rush to be anywhere else.
Golden Skies: The Patio Everyone Came For
Then the light turns, and Rook transitions along with it. “Halfie Hour” - Rook’s daily Denver Happy Hour, is a half-priced menu consisting of wine, beer, shots, well pours, and classic grilled cheese - begins and runs daily from 5 to 5:30 pm, and again for round two from 9:30 to 10 pm. The skyline west of the rooftop evolves into a shade of orange so vibrant, that people become distracted mid-sentence and start snapping photos. Visitors inevitably stay for another round of both beverages and games, which leads to dinner from an expanded menu of savory and sweet sharable small plates.

After Sunset: Curated Chaos
When the sun clocks out, nighttime energy clocks in. As the lights of the Denver skyline begin to shimmer, conversations grow louder, cocktails keep flowing, and curated vibey playlists set the tone for the rest of the evening. Under the glow of string lights, it’s easy to lose track of time, strike up a conversation with the bartender, or end up becoming lifelong friends with the people sitting next to you. Whether there’s a themed activation like Thursday’s Beat the Bartender or “Pool Party” Sundays, or simply the unmistakable buzz of a packed rooftop, Rook becomes the kind of place where people come for one drink and end up staying until closing time.
